The Kiwi twang makes American teen Disney star Sterling Knight melt like butter.
The Texan born actor says that he loves the New Zealand accent just a little too much, and it has been known on occasion to get him into trouble.
“I think it’s just a gorgeous accent.”
Twenty-one-year old Sterling Knight is in New Zealand for a brief visit this week to promote the Disney TV series ‘Sonny With A Chance’ where he acts along side teen sensation Demi Lovato.
He takes on the role of 17-year-old Chad Dylan Cooper, an egotistical actor with a leading role in the number one tween drama ‘Mckenzie Falls’.
He has a love hate relationship with actor Allison “Sonny” Munroe, played by Demi Lovato, who stars in the rival comedy series ‘So Random!’
“My character is a bit of a jerk and kind of lives in his own little fantasy world. Deep down he’s got a good heart but his eccentricities get in the way a little bit.”
“The fun part about acting is being something that you’re absolutely not, just playing pretend,” he says.
” I get to come in, have fun, say these things and not have any consequences about it.”
So far Sterling has been enchanted by Auckland, surprisingly thanks to the bad weather sweeping the city.
“Everyone’s apologising for the weather but I love it. We don’t get a lot of really good rain in California, so it’s really quite refreshing to get off the plane and it’s windy and cold.”
Not only does Sterling act, he is a keen singer and guitarist.
“I’ve been playing the guitar for about five years, and before that I played the piano and sang in a boys choir.”
Sonny With A Chance is due to commence filming for season three in January 2011 and until then Sterling says he will continue to search for work.
“I’m happiest when I’m working 12-14 hour days. Otherwise I’m just pulling my hair out, wasting time.”
